Eclipse Concert in the Nordic House
The beautiful and intimate Nordic House will host the Eclipse Concert. The Faroese Symphony Orchestra will take you on a journey into space, giving you a steller experience as they play Holst’s The Planets.
The programme also includes a performance of Bartók’s Piano Concerto No.3 with soloist Mattias Kapnas, who is currently studying at The Royal Danish Conservatoire of Music in Copenhagen. 23 year old Mattias is the winner of the 2014 Stella Polaris Competition for gifted young musicians and his prize included the opportunity to perform as soloist with the Faroese Symphony Orchestra.
The concerto was composed in 1945 during the final months of Bartók’s life, as a surprise birthday present for his second wife. Bartók died with the concerto unfinished. The task of completing the orchestration of the final 17 bars, using Bartók’s notes, was done by his friend, Tibor Serly. The work is credited with being one of the major piano concertos of the 20th century.
